Google today released a new tool called “Me On The Web” to help you make it possible to monitor and track your online identity, presence and mentions.
Here are a few ways you can manage your online reputation:
To access this tool, you will have to login to your Google account and visit your Google Dashboard. Here below the Account details, you will be able to see this new tool.
Your online identity is determined not only by what you post, but also by what others post about you – whether a mention in a blog post, a photo tag, etc. When someone searches for your name on a search engine like Google, the results that appear are a combination of information you’ve posted and information published by others.
Here are a few ways you can manage your online reputation:
- Search for yourself. Search for your name on Google to see what information about you comes up.
- Create a Google profile. With a Google profile, you can manage the information such as your bio-data, contact details, and other information about you, that people see.
- Get notified when your personal data appears on the web.
- Remove unwanted content and the associated search results. If you find say your telephone number or a photo of you, that you don’t want to appear online, you can have it removed.
To create alerts:
- Sign in to your Google Dashboard.
- In the ‘Me on the Web’ section, click on Set up search alerts.
- Select the checkboxes beside the alerts you would like to receive.
- Enter required information.
- Now, in the ‘How often’ drop-down menu, choose the desired alert frequency.
- In the ‘Deliver to’ drop-down menu, choose the email address where you want the alerts to be sent.
- Click Save.
That’s it!
Some of you may already have used Google Alerts to set up notifications to inform you of your mentions. Me on the Web makes it easier to do so, however.
